5 The Latin translation of the Guide appeared sometime between 1235 to the 1240s 6 and was mainly conducted on the basis of Al‑Ḥarizi’s Hebrew text. 4 Today the Latin version is transmitted by thirteen manuscripts and by Giustiniani’s early printing from 1520. 3 However, no close examination of the text of the Dux neutrorum has been conducted after Wolfgang Kluxen’s fundamental work, while the Dux itself still needs a critical edition. Scholars have been relying on the pioneering work of Wolfgang Kluxen 2 more recently Görge Hasselhoff dedicated a monograph to the reception of the different genres of Maimonides’ production among Latin authors. Despite its importance-and the relevance of the Latin authors who quoted from it, such as Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas 1-little information is known about the Dux neutrorum, especially its origin.
