Rooms can be moved around the hospital fairly easily, more on this later.Īdding lots of drinks machines and toilets in every section of the building will help - you don’t want your sick patient trapsing half way across the hospital to use the lavatory and then taking up a bench out side the loos! Don’t make the mistake of thinking that as soon as you get the spondoolies and cured enough patients - that will be enough to win any level! As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all Americans should unite and work towards a future where cancer diagnoses decrease and more lives continue to be saved.Theme hospital is all about designing a hospital that cures enough patients, makes a lot of money and run smoothly. This month should function as a powerful reminder of the importance of early screening and education with respect to breast cancer. This, of course, could be a gamechanger given the rise of breast cancers that are occurring especially in young Americans. When considering the millions of women that will partake in screening mammograms, AI could potentially save thousands of lives in detecting cancers alongside radiologists. In the study, AI-supported mammography resulted in a slight increased rate of cancer detection of six per 1,000 screened women, compared to five per 1,000 when two radiologists read the study without AI. AI Can Help Physicians Detect Breast CancerĪ recent study published in The Lancet Oncology examined the detection of breast cancers on mammograms between two seasoned radiologists and a single radiologist and AI. Early detection remains pivotal for survival and to prevent late diagnosis of cancers that may be aggressive and difficult to treat. Data shows that screening at the age of 40 decreases mortality and saves lives when compared to no screening with mammography. Recently, the United States Preventive Services Task Force proposed draft guidelines to screen average risk women starting at the age of 40, with continued screening every other year until the age of 74. Screening Saves LivesĪlong with breast exams performed by both patients and physicians, breast cancer is usually screened for by mammograms, which are x-ray images that radiologist physicians interpret to detect suspicious lesions that could represent cancer. The rise of cancers, and particularly breast cancer amongst middle age and younger Americans underscores the importance of educating the public on common breast cancer symptoms as well as the importance of making screening widely available for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, social status or income-level. A recent study published in JAMA Network Open also found that cancers in general have been increasing in Americans under the age of 50, with the largest number of cancer cases in young Americans attributed to breast cancer.

We've found the easiest way to do this is to grab a hammer and a sturdy (thick) putty knife, and find yourself something cushy to work on, like carpet. We used those measurements to pre-bend the metal flashing. We planned for the flashing to start at the middle of the bottom of each letter, so the first measurement is just a partial length and we allowed for some overlap at the end. Go ahead and place your first letter on the 2-5/8" scrap wood blocks to raise it up off your work surface.įirst we sketched out our letters and measured all the sides, writing the measurements down on our sketch. But because we made those scrap wood guides earlier, it's gonna be a lot easier this time. This next part, adding the flashing, was definitely the hardest step the first time we did this project. Or you can play it safe like we did by drilling halfway through the letters from the front, then flipping them over and drilling the rest of the way through. It's not a huge deal because the back of the letters will never be seen anyway, just make sure you're drilling into the front of the letters. Sometimes drilling all the way through in one go can cause a little tear-out. We'd recommend double checking the diameter of the socket part of your lights before doing this. We drilled through these using a 13/16" spade bit, but you could also use a forstner bit or hole saw. When you remove the paper templates, you'll be left with tiny starter holes to show you where you need to drill. Line up the center template with each circle on the letters, then either use a center punch or tap a nail a few times into the center mark. If the letters you chose have more than 25 holes, you might need reduce the amount of holes and eyeball how to space them out OR look for a bigger set of lights. NOTE: The lights we link to above are a pack of 25. Then we cut out the outline of the letters, taped them onto our plywood, and traced around them using a yardstick as a straight edge.ĭrillBefore removing the paper, you'll want to use the hole center guide we included in the template download to mark where to drill each hole. We taped together the template, which is easier said than done, at least when you have a cat. These are PDFs that will print out on several pages and be the right size to cut out a 2-foot tall letter. We made printable templates for every letter (you can download them here). These guides will make more sense once we get further along in the project, but trust us, you'll want to have them! This will show us where the plywood is from the outside of the flashing.īoth of these measurements are based on using 3/4" plywood. We cut another piece of scrap wood to be 3-3/8" long and drew a line at 2-5/8". Next we’re going to make a height guide to help us nail in the right location. We used our miter saw, but a jig saw works too, just cut slowly (and maybe use a clamped-on straight edge as a guide). These will hold up the letters to the correct height for nailing in the metal flashing later. We're going to make a few wooden blocks to use as guides.įirst, we cut four 2-5/8" long blocks out of some scrap 2x4s. This step is a tiny bit of up front work that is going to make things way easier later in the project. Clamps (optional, but these things are SO versatile).Spade bit or forstner bit or hole saw that's a little larger than the diameter of the sockets of your lights, but smaller than your bulbs.Globe string lights (a pack of 25 was perfect for our two letters). 6” wide metal flashing (10 feet is enough for our two letters).2’x4’, ¾” thick plywood (one sheet was enough for our two letters. We still get comments and questions about these letters, so we thought doing a video and updated tutorial would help show how we made them. We built a set of DIY wood and metal marquee letters for our wedding (and they were actually the first DIY project we ever started!). When the owners objected to this, Lord Mayor Sir Thomas Bloodworth was summoned as he had the authority to override their wishes. Image Source: Museum of LondonĪfter the fire began engulfing the bakery on Sunday, September 2, the constables arrived and decided to create firebreaks by demolishing surrounding houses to prevent the fire from spreading. The fire lasted five days and destroyed 13,200 houses, 87 churches, and most of the city authorities’ buildings. In 1666, a bakery in London’s Pudding Lane caught fire, and before the authorities could decide to create firebreaks, within hours it spread to a large portion of the city due to strong winds. The rebellion lasted until 1864 when Hong died due to food poising after abdicating in favor of his inexperienced 15-year-old son who was executed by Qing forces. It then became a rebel army that captured Nanjing which was renamed Tianjin (“Heavenly Capital”) by Hong, and he almost captured Beijing. The movement, known as the Taiping Rebellion, grew by first suppressing bandits and pirates and evolving into a guerrilla force. Soon Hong began to preach a fusion of Christianity, Confucianism, Daoism, and millenarianism. In such a climate, Hong read a pamphlet in 1843 from a Protestant Christian missionary and declared he now understood what his visions meant. Image Source: Wu Youruįollowing several natural disasters, economic problems, and defeat in the First Opium War, the Qing dynasty suffered great losses which it tried to mitigate by pressuring peasants. By 1851, his armies of followers captured some of the wealthiest parts of Qing Empire. In 1837, after failing the imperial exams to become a scholar in civil service, Hong Xiuquan fell ill, experienced visions, and declared himself the younger brother of Jesus Christ sent to rid China of corrupt Qing dynasty. By July, the Christian community of an estimated 100 families fled the town. Around 16 homes and properties were pillaged, some were set on fire, and a church was also damaged. The fight over the shirt got to the point that a Christian burned a Muslim to death which resulted in a rampage by Muslims that the police failed to control. It soon escalated to sectarian violence, property destruction, and the entire Christian community fleeing the town. In 2012, a fight began between Christians and Muslims in the town of Dahshur over a badly ironed shirt. This started the English Civil War which saw Charles’ arrest in 1647, trial, and execution in 1649, and ended with the exile of his son Charles II in 1651. The attempt ruined the efforts of his supporters to portray him in a better light as no sovereign had ever breached parliamentary privilege.īy mid-1642, the parliament called for volunteers, and Charles raised an army through a commission of array. However, they escaped before he entered with an armed guard. When, on January 3, 1642, the parliament did not give up its five members as he directed, Charles went to arrest them himself by force. Charles, on the other hand, heard rumors that his wife was going to be impeached on suspicion of supporting Irish rebels while he suspected the parliament is conspiring with Scots, probably correctly. When Charles called for funds to suppress the rebellion, many members of the House of Commons suspected he would use them later against the parliament. Image Source: Windsor Castleĭuring the Irish Rebellion of 1641, there was mutual distrust between Charles and the parliament. The botched arrest attempt led to his immediate downfall and began the English Civil War. In 1642, Charles I of England tried unsuccessfully to arrest five members of parliament suspecting that they were conspiring with the invading Scots. Finally back in the field, Austad and his guide were able get the bull to within 180 yards, and the hunter’s second-chance shot flew true. Even worse, Austad got carbon-monoxide poisoning from his camp trailer and had to miss half a month of hunting as he recovered. Austad hunted the bull for nearly two weeks before getting a shot. Austad, who bought a Governor’s Tag for six figures, hired a guide who found and kept track of the bull for months. The Spider Bull was well-known to elk fanatics, but Denny Austad seemed destined to tag the Utah giant. Status: Current B&C non-typical world record elk.1) The Spider Bull Denny Austad took the current B&C word-record non-typical bull in 2008. All but one is or was a world-record bull, and all but one goes over, or way over, 400 inches. Here are the top one or two bulls ever taken in each world-record elk category. And the bulls below should provide plenty of fantasy fodder. Well, if you’re going to dream, you may as well dream big. We’re in the heart of another elk season, and hunters are stalking the mountains and backcountry looking to fill their tags-and daydreaming about lovesick bulls screaming their way into bow or gun range. For details and to learn how to submit a trophy for the program, go to monster non-typical bull was found in Canada in 1994. Starting in 2014, the Wildlife Department’s official hunter recognition program expanded its record book to include elk, bear and pronghorn that exceed minimum qualifying scores. Oklahoma’s Cy Curtis Awards Program began in 1972 and originally recognized white-tailed deer and mule deer only. This year’s online application period will run from April 2 to May 15 for hunts scheduled next fall and winter. One lucky participant won a lifetime combination license provided by The Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Foundation.īesides private-land elk hunting opportunities, several public-land elk hunts are offered each year through the Department’s controlled hunts program. And many people brought trophies that qualify for a Cy Curtis Award entries are accepted online only. Scorers measured 287 deer, six pronghorns, two bears and seven elk. This was the third year for the March Rack Madness! event, which showcases Oklahoma's remarkable big game resources and our passion for hunting. He said he hunted 18 days this year without getting an elk. It was taken in 2005 by Jerry Jaynes in Comanche County.Īsked what advice he would give to a novice elk hunter, Hiebert said to keep at it and don’t give up. The former Cy Curtis state-record nontypical elk scored 325 7/8. “I had no idea what I had when I shot him.” “I had no idea until I had one at 20 yards how big they truly are,” he said. As it turned out, Hiebert said another elk was taken the same day in that zone and, had he not found success that day, the area would have been closed to hunting the next day. The hunt area is in the Special Northwest Zone, which has a season quota of just two elk. When he got in front of me, he stopped, and I just drew my bow and let her fly. “Somehow, luckily, he ran right out in front of me. … And he came out of the trees like a tank. “I was actually in the middle of changing spots that evening, and I was out in the middle of a wheat field. Hiebert recalled his hunt during a Facebook Live interview posted on the Wildlife Department’s Facebook page. 3, 2017, on private land in Dewey County. The record bull elk was harvested with a compound bow Oct. Because of its size and the large crowd in the scoring area, the rack had to be placed in the building’s lobby to await the attention of a panel of judges. Hiebert hauled his elk mount to Oklahoma City in an enclosed trailer. The score bested the previous record by 21 inches, and became the second-place elk overall in the state’s Cy Curtis record book for big game harvests. His 9-by-9 bull elk tallied 346 7/8 points after a four-man panel measured the massive rack March 5. Now he’s known as the new record holder in the nontypical elk category of the Oklahoma Cy Curtis Awards Program. Bowhunter Tyson Hiebert of Seiling came away with more than a scored rack at the third-annual March Rack Madness! event at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation headquarters in Oklahoma City. They are so attentive, as its a smaller resort it's more personal, they remembered us every night our drinks orders etc. The Italian is beautiful, Asian was also very very good! As a veggie they looked after me too :) the seaside grill - lush! The buffet was good, we had breakfast there and a few lunches, only 1 dinner. We met 4 other couples ( 2 UK & 2 Canada) and all agreed on this also. Food - We did not have a bad meal in the 14 days we stayed at Secrets. I noticed a few negative reviews and I honestly do not understand what anyone could complain about here. We will not return because of the issues around the pool and the risk that a unit w/o steps may not be available. We purchased transfers with Viator, 1/2 the cost and very reliable. Let me say that Harold, one of the van drivers, was my favorite. All of the staff were excellent and I apologize for not taking names to thank them. Our friend caught a Mahi Mahi on an fishing trip and the chef at the Seaside grill made blackened Mahi and Cerviche. I watched the chefs and they definitely had problems multi tasking, On twe days the hamburgers were like hockey pucks. If you ordered food, the wait was over 45 minutes. We ate at the buffet for lunch one day and were disappointed. Omelets made fresh and the fruit was wonderful. The menu for table service at the asian restaurent is also great. Food: As with all Secrets resorts the food is excellent. It is ironic because umbrellas in shaded areas have stronger bases. Even when they are down a gentle breeze will blow them over!!! So this means no shade for anyone around the pool. If they are up, a 5-10 mph wind will blow them over. But the issue at this pool is that the umbrellas are dangerous. To get these chairs you must grab them around 6:30. OK, I will say that my group loves to sit around the main activity pool. But be aware of the room you are assigned. There are shuttle vans that will take you anywhere w/in the resort. If you have any issues with mobility or climbing stairs let them know! We were booked into a room with over 20 steps w/o a railing! Luckily the staff person saw the brace on my knee and moved us to a unit without steps. First of all, the resort is built on the hills surrounding a beautiful bay off the Pacific. We love Secrets Resorts, but there are several things that you must be aware of when you go. I enjoyed the beach near the smaller pool a lot! I would return based on the food and would prefer a newer closer room next time. The room could use some more dresser storage and hooks as well. Lots of towels and toiletries were appreciated. Our room was a little tired, bed was comfy but the shower was not great, had to wait awhile for hot water and the faucet handle was loose and actually fell off. Our room was very far from anything so that was not great but there were shuttles you could call if you didn’t want to walk the hilly property. The house wine was great according to the wine drinkers in the group and I enjoyed some great mixed drinks. Every single meal was delicious, great variety and no issues whatsoever. During our stay we visited Seaside Grill, Himitsu and Portofino restaurants. No matter, we were offered a mimosa during check in and we immediately found our way to a restaurant for lunch at Aqua for their delicious catch of the day. The check in process was very smooth although we did have to wait until 3:00 for our room. We visited this property for 3 nights after attending a wedding at a higher level hotel across the bay.
